DGE Learning: interactive training modules that behave like software
DGE Learning builds training content for enterprises and educational bodies. Its content is written by people who are not engineers, while the result has to behave like software: it branches, it asks questions, it marks answers, and somebody has to be able to prove afterwards that a person completed it. We built the quiz engine, the video player with timed questions layered over the frame, and the course builder and roles that let non-engineers run all of it. This is the second engagement with a client we have worked with since January 2022.

This is the second engagement with the client whose lesson authoring platform we rescued and extended. That work ended because its goals were met, and they came back with the next problem. A training module is not a document, the people writing one are not engineers, and the gap between those two facts is where the product lives.
We built the platform in two halves that later became one. The first is the quiz: interactive activities well past multiple choice, including connecting items and ordering sentences, with the whole set having to work on every device and input method a learner might turn up with. The second is the video player, and it is the piece worth showing. It looks like a consumer video player and behaves like a training session, in that the video pauses itself where the author wants it to, a timed question appears over the frame, points accrue on correct answers, and a leaderboard closes the session. Between those sit the presentation effects an author would expect from Keynote or PowerPoint. A cyber-security module for a company's staff is the archetypal use. Around all of it sits what makes it usable by non-engineers: a course builder, and roles that separate the learner from the trainer from the administrator.
The collaboration turned into a real product argument, and the resolution is the interesting part. We wanted one reusable activity template, polished until it was right, because that is what stays maintainable. The client wanted their own users to be able to invent activity types nobody had anticipated. Rather than pick a side, we built both: the polished templates, and alongside them a custom-activity path where an activity is defined in editable JSON, rendered in its own frame, and generated by AI from a plain description of what somebody wants. A customer who asks for round cards that float can have them, without waiting on a release.
Then this engagement succeeded the way the first one had, and produced the same result: a further ask. The quiz and the player needed to sit under one roof with a course catalogue over them, and that became the third engagement with this client, the one that turned separate builds into a single platform.
The platform shipped, and the client kept going: its quiz and video products became the core of the next engagement, which pulled everything under one catalogue. The account is still open at low intensity, with work arriving as discrete pieces (new animations, the custom-activity path) rather than as a continuous stream. No client-confirmed figure is published for this engagement.
